V-Station 3300 Installation
Connecting the RS232 cable to the Com Port
- A cable must be connected between the 3300's 8 pin mini din labeled
"COMPUTER RS-232" and the main computer's 9 or 25 pin serial port (Not the
printer port). Older cables require an DB25M to DB9F to connect to a 9 pin port.
Connecting the VTR cables
- A cable must be connect between 3300's 7 pin mini din labeled
"Player A,Player B, Recorder R" and the individual VTR. You must use FutureVideo
cables. See the pink compatibility chart for the exact cable required for your type of
VTR.
- Make sure cables are properly plugged all the way into VTR/controller.
Connecting the Mixer cable and GPI cables.
- If you are using a Videonics MX-1 mixer, only the GPI/serial control
cable is connected between the 3300 gpi-1 or 2 and the mixer GPI (Just one connection).
- If you are using a Panasonic WJ-AVE55 OR MX-20, a cable must be
connected between the 3300's AUX and the AVE55 or MX20 labeled SERIAL. In addition a cable
is required connected between the 3300 gpi-1 or 2 and the mixer GPI..
- If you are using a Panasonic WJ-MX30/50 a cable must be connected
between the MX30/50 serial port and the main computer COM port. Note: the computer COM
port for the MX30/50 does not require an IRQ. So it possible to disable it to free up an
interrupt.
What about window interrupts
- Windows does not support shared hardware interrupts. Since COM1 and COM3
(also COM2 and COM4) share the same interrupts, you cannot have one serial device
installed on COM1 and the other device installed on COM3 (or one device on COM2 and
another on COM4) unless you have change the interrupts for one of the COM ports.
V-Station 3300 Operational Questions
Will not initialize controller
- Is the power turned on? (Ready led should lite green)
- Is the cable connected. (see above section for correct connection.)
- Check for other devices in your computer such as modems that may have the same interrupts.
- The COM port for the Switcher and Controller are the same, they must be different.
- Cables not properly plugged all the way into VTR/controller.
- Player or Recorder cable may be defective.
If you still get the "can't initialize controller" message
Click on Continue. When the main window appears, click on Options then Edit Controller.
Make sure that:
Task Rate = 3 VTR Driver = 5 if your using a JVC RS232 VTRs,= 6 for Panasonic AG5700 and AJ-D230, = 7
for Visca, and = 8 for EV0-9800A,9850 or the SVO-2000. Com Port = 1,2,3 or 4 (see connections note above) Baud Rate = 4800
Will not control all the functions of VTR or hangs up
- Check the VTR device code (Click on Options..VTR.. Source A,B or R) for
each VTR. The code can be found on the pink compatibility chart enclosed with the
controller.
Remote Counter does not read same as VTR
- Check the VTR Time Code Mode. (Click on Options..VTR.. Source A,B or R)
Off is for control track only, On is for VTR with internal Timecode, and Auto is for 3300
Plus controller
TimeCode does not read correctly
- FutureVideo editcontrollers read timecode from 0 to 9 hours. Between 9
and 10 (and 19-20) hours the counter can sometimes read backwards and above 10 hours the
controller will truncate the first digit. For example, 18 hours will become 08 hours.
Note: V-station Software does not work with Drop Frame time code. Early
controller will show improper frame numbers (it will add 40 frames) to the counter. New
controller (version 5.14 and above) will just ignore Drop Frame Timecode on Source VTRs
but not recommended on the recorder.
My edits are not accurate
- Make sure that the Preroll time is not too short. Set it to 10 seconds
(12 if using 3300 Plus with any of the VTS in the AUTO timecode mode) as a default.
- Bad controll track on you video tape.
VTR/VCR do not respond
- If Sony VTR, check that VTR remote select switch is set to 'SLAVE' mode
on VTR menu setup.
- Make sure VTRs have tape cassettes inserted.
- Make cables are properly plugged all the way into VTR/controller.
- Player or Recorder cables may be defective.
- 422/232 VTR Remote/local switch must be set to Remote
- Wrong devce driver setting or improper device code.
- Reset VTR by unplugging it from AC for 2 minutes. and restarting system again.
Mixer is not working
- The mixer is not serial controllable (only the AutoTake function can be
triggered).
- The mixer is not connected to the PC Com port(WJ-MX30/50).
- The mixer is not connected to the Controller's AUX port(WJ-AVE55, MX20).
- The mixer is not connected to the GPI port.
- The mixer is not a WJ-AVE55, WJ-MX20, WJ-MX30, WJ-MX50, or MX-1.
- From the Options menu, ensure that GPI 1 or 2 is checked.
A/V switcher settings are not changing
- The switcher is not serial controllable (only the AutoTake function can be triggered).
- The switcher serial port is not connected to the PC COM port or 3300 Aux (see connections
above).
- The switcher is not a WJ-AVE55/MX20, WJ-MX30, WJ-MX50 or MX-1.
- If using a WJ-MX30/50 make sure Option..Digital Switch setting is 9600
- From the Options menu, ensure that GPI 1 or 2 is checked.
Switcher Windows does not appear
- The Switcher must be a W-AVE55/MX20, WJ-MX30, WJ-MX50 or MX-1 to use the
Switcher Window, otherwise the Transition window appears.
- From the Options menu, ensure that GPI 1 or 2 is checked.
A/V Switcher does not do a transition.
- The GPI cable is not connected from the edit controller to the switcher (see GPI
connections above)
- The GPI Mode and LOGIC are not set correctly in the VTR options menu.
Video or Audio not recorded.
- Audio or video cables are not properly connected from Player to
Recorder.
- Audio cables not connected to same line input as video cables.
- Wrong Edit mode selected
- Record VTR Input Select switch not correctly set for Line 1 or 2, or SVHS position.
- VTR Audio Output Select switch has not been set to playback the normal (linear) audio
channel.
- VTR does not have audio dub function.
Video Insert Doesn't work
- VTR does not have Insert function.
- If using 8mm or Hi8 consumer VTR, this function does not exist. Only audio dub or A/V
inserts may be possible.
Edit Stops Performing
- There is insufficient leader required for Pre-roll. Allow at least 20-30
seconds prior to cut In points on all VTRs.
- Check the system codes
- Player Preroll trims set to low/high (should be 5 -11 frames)
Glitch or snow occurs on the first edit
- The Record VTR tape has not been positioned properly before the edit
began. This may happen if the record VTR "times out" from Still or Rec-Pause
mode and goes to Stop position before the edit is performed. If this happens, put the
Record VTR into playback mode, locate the end of the last scene and put it into Still mode
before re-performing the edit.
Edit is too early or Late
- The Proper VTR System Code has not been selected.
- There is a gap in control track or video during the pre-roll section. Allow at least 15-20
seconds of good video prior to an edit In point.
Preview doesn't work as expected
- The Recorder must have E-E (Electronics-to-Electronics) mode for an
actual preview to be rehearsed. If your VTR has this capability, then this type of preview
will occur only in the Insert modes.
Match Frame edits are early or late
- Adjust the player preroll trim for the VTR that is early or late. Then
preform BOTH the previous edit and the current match frame edit to verify adjustment.
Note: do not adjust the recorder preroll trim to fix match frame edits.
