MC200 Installation
Connecting the RS232 cable to the Com Port
- A cable must be connected between the MC200's 8 pin mini-din labeled
"COMPUTER RS-232" and the main computer's 9 or 25 pin serial port (Not the
printer port).
Connecting the VTR cables
- A cable must be connect between MC200's 7 pin mini din labeled
"Transport" and the individual VTR. You must use FutureVideo cables. See the
pink compatibility chart for the exact cable required for your type of VTR.
- Make sure cables are properly plugged all the way into VTR and controller.
MC200 Internal Master / Slave switch
- The MC200 has an internal Master/Slave switch. Normally this is left in
the Master setting when used with PC. The Slave mode is only used for multiple daisy chain
MC200.
What about window interrupts
- Windows does not support shared hardware interrupts. Since COM1 and COM3
(also COM2 and COM4) share the same interrupts, you cannot have one serial device
installed on COM1 and the other device installed on COM3 (or one device on COM2 and
another on COM4) unless you have change the interrupts for one of the COM ports.
MC200 Operational Questions
Can't find "FutureVideo" in device or Current
device section.
- If using Adobe Premiere 4.2 make sure the file "x-fvdrv.prm"
(if NT "x-fvdrvn.prm") is found in the Premiere Plugin directory.
- If using Ulead MediaStuido 5.0 make sure the file "fvlead.drv"
(if NT "fvleadnt.drv") is found in the Ulead Device directory.
Will not initialize controller
- Is the power turned on? (Ready led should lite green)
- Is the Rs232 cable connected. (see above section for correct connection.)
- Check for other devices in your computer such as modems that may have the same interrupts.
- Cables not properly plugged all the way into VTR/controller.
- VTR cable may be defective.
If you still get the "can't initialize controller" message, go
to the Controller Setup section.
VTR Driver = 5 if your using a JVC RS232 VTRs,= 6 for Panasonic AG5700
and AJ-D230, = 7 for Visca, and = 8 for EV0-9800A,9850 or the SVO-2000.
Com Port = 1,2,3 or 4 (see connections note above)
Will not controll all the functions of VTR or hangs up
- Check the VTR device code (Controller Setup section) for each VTR. The
code can be found on the pink compatibility chart enclosed with the controller.
Remote Counter does not read same as VTR
- Check the VTR Time Code Mode. (Controller Setup section) Off is
for control track only, On is for VTR with internal Timecode, and Auto
is for MC200 with FV1209 option.
TimeCode does not read correctly
- FutureVideo editcontrollers read timecode from 0 to 9 hours. Between 9
and 10 (and 19-20) hours the counter can sometimes read backwards and above 10 hours the
controller will truncate the first digit. For example, 18 hours will become 08 hours.
VTR/VCR do not respond
- If Sony VTR, check that VTR remote select switch is set to 'SLAVE' mode
on VTR menu setup.
- Make sure VTRs have tape cassettes inserted.
- Make cables are properly plugged all the way into VTR/controller.
- VTR cable may be defective.
- 422/232 VTR Remote/local switch must be set to Remote
- Wrong device driver setting or improper device code
- Reset VTR by unplugging it from AC for 2 minutes. and restarting system again.
Video or Audio not recorded.
- Audio or video cables are not properly connected from Player to
Recorder.
- Audio cables not connected to same line input as video cables.
- Wrong Edit mode selected
- Record VTR Input Select switch not correctly set for Line 1 or 2, or SVHS position.
- VTR Audio Output Select switch has not been set to playback the normal (linear) audio
channel.
- VTR does not have audio dub function.
Video Insert Doesn't work
- VTR does not have Insert function.
- If using 8mm or Hi8 consumer VTR, this function does not exist. Only audio dub or A/V
inserts may be possible.
Edit Stops Performing
- There is insufficient leader required for Pre-roll. Allow at least 20-30
seconds prior to cut In points on all VTRs.
Check the system codes
Capture is too early or late
- The Proper VTR System Code has not been selected.
- There is a gap in control track or video during the pre-roll section. Allow at least 15-20
seconds of good video prior to an edit In point.
- Check the Timecode offset. Decrease if value is early, Increase if late.
